He spoke alongside Club legend Steve Walsh about the Walking Football programme
Making him the longest-serving member of staff at the charity, Dave’s journey reflects not only his personal dedication, but also the growth and evolution of Leicester City in the Community itself.
This weekend, Dave was interviewed pitchside with Foxes legend Steve Walsh about one of his programmes: Walking Football.
Dave joined Leicester City in the Community at a time when the organisation consisted of just three staff members. Since then, it has grown into a large, respected charity delivering impactful programmes across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Throughout this period of change and expansion, Dave has been a friendly constant; committed, adaptable and dedicated to supporting local communities.
Dave left a role as a kitchen fitter to pursue a career in community sport, a decision that has had a lasting impact, with Dave contributing to a wide range of programmes over the past two decades. His work has spanned our Football Camps, Walking Football, and the Silver Foxes Together programme, all of which have helped participants stay active, connected and engaged.
Dave has also played an important role in developing opportunities for women and girls, including leading the girls’ football team at South Wigston College and working within our Girls' Centre of Excellence where he even coached LCFC Women's January signing Rachel Williams. In addition, his involvement in Disability Football has helped ensure the game remains inclusive and accessible to all.
One of Dave’s most valued areas of work continues to be his support for older generations. This has been evidenced through the Then, Now and Forever project, which took support for people with dementia into care homes, and his continued dedication to the Silver Foxes, a group for older fans that forms part of the Silver Foxes Together programme, funded by the National Lottery Awards For All Grant.
The compassion, patience and professionalism he brings to these sessions have made such a meaningful difference to participants, families and staff alike. The projects Dave currently leads are consistently delivered to an exceptional standard and are widely respected across Leicester City in the Community.
Away from delivery, Dave is known for his strong work ethic, humility and sense of humour. He is a family man first and foremost, and never seeks recognition, choosing instead to focus on supporting colleagues and creating positive experiences for those he works with.
Above all, Dave is an absolute gentleman and a true ambassador for Leicester City in the Community. His contribution over the past 20 years has been invaluable, and his dedication continues to inspire those around him. We wanted to say thank you Dave, for everything you’ve done!
