Oxford City are our Emirates FA Cup First Round opponents on Friday (7:45pm kick-off)
Bobby De Cordova-Reid previewed the cup tie ahead of travelling to MGroup Stadium
The attacker is focused on winning games of football, whichever competition we play in
Always a fixture to look out for in the calendar, the Foxes’ FA Cup journey for 26/27 begins this Friday night, away to the Enterprise National League South outfit, who sit second in the sixth tier heading into the 7:45pm kick-off at MGroup Stadium.
Building up to the cup clash, in which Leicester, three divisions above the hosts, will naturally start as favourites, De Cordova-Reid shared his thoughts on the prestigious competition, as well as outlining the importance of showing the correct attitude in order to avoid an upset and build momentum in the camp.
“The FA Cup has always been a special cup in England,” the attacker commented, speaking earlier this week. “Everyone wants to win something and that’s a big trophy. I’ve always liked the FA Cup but never got anywhere close to winning it.
“We’ll be looking to get through this first round. We’ll be going there to put out a good team, do a professional job and try and win the game. We take every game as it comes.
“We have to win football matches and then go on a run, which breeds confidence for the squad, for the players, for the Club as a whole. That’s the main thing. We’re trying to win regardless of what competition it is.
“We know it’s going to be a tough game; there’s no two ways about it. Everyone understands that and we have the utmost respect for Oxford City.
“There have been upsets before, hopefully it’s not us. We have to prepare right.”
Speaking more broadly on the team’s progression in recent weeks, the Jamaica international believes things are starting to come together after a difficult start to the season, with three wins from the last five in Sky Bet League One.
“We’ve got to keep going on this trajectory,” the 33-year-old stated. “We’ve got to be consistent in what we’re doing and I think we’ve got to the point where we’re doing that. It will be onwards and upwards from here on in.
“We’re definitely learning. You can never hit the ground running. There are always going to be some problems or mistakes. We’ve come across them and we’re dealing with them and I think we'll be better for it.
“At some point, you might not get the result you want but if you can see where the team is going and what we’re trying to do, it will come good. It’s a results-based business, but there’s been games where we’ve completely dominated and not got the result.
“We have to look at the positives. We need to do the right things and more often than not we’ll get the right result. We’ve got to keep on plugging away.”
