Leicester City in the Community's Premier League Kicks participants took part in a special girls' tournament at St George's Park
The event celebrated 20 years of Premier League Kicks and the growth of the women's game
The programme brings girls from different local sessions together, creating opportunities to build friendships, confidence and a sense of belonging
Earlier this year, girls from Leicester City in the Community's Premier League Kicks programme travelled to St George's Park to take part in the latest Premier League Kicks Cup, joining hundreds of female footballers from across England and Wales.
The tournament provided an opportunity for participants to showcase their footballing ability on the same pitches used by Premier League and Women's Super League stars, while enjoying a day of football, workshops and activities.
For Leicester City in the Community, the event was about more than the football. It provided an opportunity for girls from different local sessions to come together, make new friendships and experience the positive impact of being part of a wider community.
The Premier League Kicks Cup celebrated 20 years of the Premier League's flagship community programme, which uses the power of football to engage young people, build positive relationships and create safer, more inclusive communities.
As part of the celebrations, official Premier League ball supplier PUMA gifted every player a pair of football boots, with participants also given the opportunity to win an official Premier League match ball.
The experience created lasting memories for the Leicester City in the Community participants, with Zahra, a former Premier League Kicks participant who is now a full-time member of staff at Leicester City in the Community, reflecting on the significance of the day.
Zahra commented: "The day has been fabulous. Our team have all come in here with a smile and they will all leave with a smile. The fact that they can say they have been to the Premier League Kicks Cup, it's a proud achievement. It's a lifetime thing that will stick with them.
"All their camera rolls are being flooded with all the opportunities that they've had here, the games, the experiences and the workshops. When they go back to school, they will show their friends and teachers that this is where they went during the summer holidays. It's a great experience."
The Leicester City in the Community squad brought together girls from different local Premier League Kicks sessions, giving participants the opportunity to connect with young people from other areas of Leicester.
Through football, the programme creates an environment where young people can build relationships, feel welcomed and develop a stronger connection with their local community.
"Hopefully they can share these stories and experiences and they can be the next people to inspire others to come down and see what Premier League Kicks is all about," Zahra continued.
"We've selected girls from different local sessions as it not only creates friendships with new people, it also exposes them to other local communities that we work with. That is what Premier League Kicks is about. We're here to integrate and create safer communities everywhere around Leicester."
Zahra's own journey highlights the lasting impact of Leicester City in the Community's work, having first joined Premier League Kicks as a participant in 2007 before progressing into a full-time role with the Football Club.
Her experience demonstrates how the opportunities created through community football can extend far beyond the pitch, supporting young people to develop their confidence, aspirations and sense of belonging.
She added: "Premier League Kicks is something I've been heavily invested in since I joined as a participant in 2007. I grew up knowing what the programme is all about and the impact it can have.
"Football can change lives and I am an example of what football can do, from being a young participant to getting into a full-time role with the Football Club. I've experienced some great things and I've had some very proud moments.
"Premier League Kicks turned my dreams into reality. It's like my baby! It's something I have grown up with and they have crafted me into the person that I am today."
Through Premier League Kicks, Leicester City in the Community continues to provide opportunities for young people to engage with football in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
From weekly sessions across Leicester to a national tournament at St George's Park, the programme demonstrates how football can bring people together, break down barriers and create a sense of belonging.
By supporting young people to build friendships, develop confidence and inspire others, Leicester City in the Community continues to use the power of the badge to create opportunities and ensure there is always a place for everyone.
