Ilari Kangasniemi helps Finland U21s win and keep a clean sheet in UEFA U21 EURO qualification

Up to four Foxes could be involved in Thursday’s internationals, including Liam Cullen and Wes Burns
Finland Under-21s continued their impressive record in UEFA U21 EURO qualification by beating Romania 2-0 away from home, with young City centre-back Ilari Kangasniemi playing 90 minutes at Stadionul Eugen Popescu.
Helping to maintain a clean sheet at one end, Luka Hyryläinen’s first-half strike and a late own goal from Mario Bărăitaru, saw Kangasniemi’s Finland claim another three points, which guarantees at least a second-place finish in Group A after seven wins from nine.
As a result, Mika Lehkosuo’s side have moved to the top of their qualifying pool, one point ahead of Spain, though the Spaniards do have a game in hand on the group leaders, who play their final fixture against Kosovo at Stadiumi Fadil Vokrri in Pristina on Tuesday (6pm kick-off).
Elsewhere, Foxes Development Squad midfielder Hugo de Lisle came on as a half-time substitute during England Under-18s’ 2-1 success over Korea Republic in the UEFA Friendship Cup.
Goalless at the break, Sam Alabi and Ryan Kavuma-McQueen struck in the second half for the young Lions, who were already assured of a place in the semi-finals of the competition prior to a third consecutive group stage victory at Centre Sportif de Colovray.
Topping group A, England will now face Spain, the winner of group B, in the last-four on Saturday, a 4pm kick-off in Nyon, Switzerland.
There are more internationals to come on Thursday, when Wes Burns, Liam Cullen and Dai Cornell could all be involved in Wales’ UEFA Nations League clash with Norway, with Ryan Donnelly also potentially in action for Northern Ireland Under-21s.
