Leicester City make the trip to Bramall Lane on New Year’s Day
We open 2026 with a Sky Bet Championship fixture against Sheffield United
Ben Nelson previewed the fixture as he targets another three points
The turn of the year offers an opportunity for us to reinvent ourselves and build on the positives from 2025, which ended with a 2-1 win over the Derby County. Speaking after that win against the Rams on Monday night, the young defender understands the Foxes need to rally, if they want to make it through this busy period with more wins on the board.
Nelson has made eight league appearances this term.
“There are loads of positives from the Derby game, and we’ve got to take as much of that as we can into the next one,” Nelson opened with.
“It’s always going to happen (getting injuries) in this period because there’s not much time to recover between games, but we’ve got plenty of players as you saw against Derby who can come in and do similar jobs.
“We know what we need to do, and that’s the momentum that we’ve been lacking. We have a couple of wins but then have a couple of losses, and we let ourselves down.
“But now we need to build a string of results and build that consistency up.”
The defender targets an improved second half of the season.
At the halfway stage, Nelson admitted we aren’t where we want, or need, to be at this point of the campaign, but is confident in believing the best performances are yet to come from this group.
“We’ll recover from this game and then some of the lads will put some work in ahead of the game on New Year’s Day,” the Academy graduate added.
“We’re just past the halfway point and we’ve not been happy with how we’ve performed so far and we want to put that right in the second half of the season, and that starts with Sheffield United.”
