Leicester City lost 2-0 against Charlton Athletic on Saturday
Two first-half goals saw the Foxes lose out to the Addicks
Ricardo Pereira gave his post-match reflections following defeat
It was a second successive home defeat on Filbert Way following goals from Sonny Carey and Lyndon Dykes. Sharing his post-match thoughts after the full-time whistle, Ricardo felt Caleb Okoli’s early sending did not help a testing afternoon, with City’s 10-men unable to breach the Charlton backline in open play. A big opportunity did fall our way from the penalty spot, when Abdul Fatawu was felled by Amari’i Bell, but Jordan Ayew was unable to convert from 12 yards, striking the outside of the post.
“It was a difficult week for us,” the Portuguese defender admitted. “When you change manager, it’s not a good sign. You have a strategy to do some things differently and try to improve and then when you have the red card at the beginning, it changes everything.
“Then it’s difficult. You need to defend, run and then 2-0 down at half-time, we said in there that we need to come out strong and keep working, keep fighting and not let it become worse than it was.
“You have the penalty and when you have chances and it doesn’t go your way, it’s like everything that could go wrong, went wrong. Maybe if one of our chances or the penalty goes in, it would be a different game.”
Aggressive and determined in the second half, the Foxes showed character to try and find a way back into the game, but it was ultimately not enough and we once again came away empty handed.
“It was really important,” the 32-year-old added. “In this game we knew we had to show that and of course you have to try and look to the positive side that a lot of things went against us, but we kept working and kept trying.
“It’s hard because I think we had a good week, even in the circumstances, and then in the game, there were some positives from the performance but at the end of the day it’s zero points and that’s disappointing for us.”
