Thursday’s fixture release has confirmed that our campaign will indeed start on Sunday 10 August, when we welcome Sheffield Wednesday to King Power Stadium.
With around six weeks to go until we take to centre stage, we’ve taken a look back and some of our more memorable victories against the Owls.
The first of our strongest home results ended in a 2-0 win in mid-September, 20 years ago, when Mark De Vries, who signed from Heart of Midlothian that January, scored twice in three minutes.
A win that pushed us closer to the Premier League.

What was only a second win of the season so far, City would go on to finish 16th in the Championship that term.
Our next meeting resulted in a winter win back in 2009, when we ran out 3-0 victors under Nigel Pearson, in a season which saw us come fifth in the second tier.
Steve Howard opened the scoring eight minutes in before an Andy King brace, with a goal in each half, saw us claim our ninth win, and first in four games.
Fast forward four-and-a-half years to the spring of 2014, to bring back memories of a vital 2-1 win against Wednesday on a Friday night which saw us get even closer to Premier League promotion.
A pivotal fixture, once again under the management of Pearson, it was Riyad Mahrez who broke the deadlock 10 minutes in before Michail Antonio levelled things up before half-time.
Fatawu and Vardy got on the scoresheet in our last meeting with the Owls.

With an hour on the clock, a wonderous free-kick from Anthony Knockaert put us back in front, later confirming the three points, extending our unbeaten run to an impressive 21 games.
Our last, and most recent, home meeting with the Owls came in February, 2024, when first-half goals from Abdul Fatawu and Jamie Vardy sent us on our way to a 2-0 win.
A season that saw us crowned as Championship winners for a record eighth time, we’ll hope fortune is on our side once again in August.
