Winger Tommy Watson joins Leicester City on loan from Brighton
The 20-year-old is an England youth international and a product of Sunderland’s academy
He helped the Black Cats secure promotion to the Premier League in 2024/25

The 20-year-old England youth international, who’s known for his creativity and pace, made his Premier League debut for the Seagulls last term and helped Sunderland secure promotion to the highest tier of English football in 2024/25 - famously scoring a stoppage-time winner in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final.

Speaking to LCFC.com, he said: “I’m really pleased to be here. The size of the Club, the ambition for the season and the opportunity to be part of what the team is building made Leicester City a very exciting move for me.

“I want to work hard, bring energy and excitement to the team and make a real contribution this season. I’m looking forward to meeting the lads, getting out on the pitch and playing in front of the supporters at King Power Stadium.”

Born in County Durham, Watson is a product of Sunderland’s academy, whom he joined at Under-9 level.

He made his professional debut for the Black Cats in April 2023 with his breakout season coming in 2024/25 when he featured for them on 22 occasions in all competitions, coming off the bench to score the Championship Play-Off Final winner against Sheffield United at Wembley.

His impressive displays in the northeast caught the eye of Brighton & Hove Albion and in June 2025, he made the switch to the south coast. He scored on his debut for the Seagulls in a 6-0 victory over Oxford United in the Carabao Cup and made six Premier League appearances for them before heading out on loan to gain valuable experience with Millwall, who finished third in last season’s Championship.

Watson will now link up with his Leicester City teammates who play their final pre-season friendly fixture against Serie A side Genoa at King Power Stadium this evening (Saturday 1 August, 7:30pm kick-off).
