We head to Cheltenham Town on Saturday in the Emirates FA Cup
Boubakary Soumaré is working towards his return, Martí Cifuentes said
The Manager also shared updates on Aaron Ramsey’and Harry Souttar's fitness
There’s nothing new in terms of injuries after a busy festive period, he added
The Foxes, entering the illustrious competition at the third round stage, face the Sky Bet League 2 side at The EV Charger Points Stadium this Saturday (12:15pm GMT kick-off) aiming to build on the late success secured at home to West Bromwich Albion earlier this week.
Ahead of the cup clash, Cifuentes provided news on Boubakary Soumaré, one of the more long-term absentees, who has not featured for the Club since the end of November.
Although this weekend will come too soon for the French midfielder to be involved, the next Sky Bet Championship fixture, away at Coventry City, remains a target for his reintroduction to the team, the Manager revealed.
“Bouba has been training on the grass already, feeling better and hopefully he will join the group very soon,” the Spaniard commented. “The first one [back] will be Bouba.
“We are working to see if he can be available for the Coventry game. I think everything will depend on how he progresses in the next days and we will see.
Aaron Ramsey, however, remains out of contention following an injury sustained just minutes after coming off the bench against Derby County in our final fixture of 2025. The rest of the squad have come through the festive fixture schedule unscathed, meanwhile.
“Luckily [we’ve had no more injuries],” the 43-year-old continued. “Obviously the last one with Aaron, but nothing else, so after this congested period it’s good to not get more injures.
“Basically, we think he can still recover in time to help the team (this season). It was a blow for himself and for all of us, because I think he has the quality and the talent to be an important player. He can make it to be part of the last rush of the season.
Watching on in Seagrave this week.
“I don’t want to say exactly when he will back because it’s something that we need to see how it develops, but it’s a muscular injury and shouldn’t take more than a few weeks.”
Also adding a word on Harry Souttar, the Australian international centre-back has been sidelined since December 2024 and continues to recover in Seagrave after requiring surgery.
“He’s had an injury that needed minor surgery,” Cifuentes confirmed. “But he’s going to be back on the grass in perhaps a couple of weeks, so it’s hopefully not a big one.
“We are talking about weeks but for sure the reality is that he has been away [for a while]. His last game was almost one year ago, so it’ll take some time until he will be 100 per cent ready.”
