Speaking to LCFC.com, John said: “I’m delighted to be here. I’ve played against Leicester City before and always admired them from afar.
“I’m ready for this next challenge in my career and can’t wait to meet the lads, meet the fans, and get started. We all know what the goal is this season and I’m looking forward to trying to help the team achieve it.”
Born in Liverpool, John progressed through the Academy at Everton and gained his first senior experience during a successful loan spell with Doncaster Rovers, helping them win the League One title in 2012/13. Further loan spells followed before he joined Oxford United permanently in August 2015, making 104 appearances and helping the U’s secure promotion from League Two during his first season.
A move to Sheffield United followed in 2017, with John making 120 appearances across four seasons and helping the Blades win promotion to the Premier League in 2018/19. He joined Rangers in July 2021 and went on to play more than 150 times for the Glasgow side, winning the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup and helping them reach the UEFA Europa League Final in 2022.
John moved to Trabzonspor in June 2024 and made 44 appearances during his first season in Türkiye. He returned to England on loan with Hull City for the 2025/26 campaign, featuring 34 times as the Tigers secured promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs.
An England youth international from Under-17 to Under-20 level, John has now linked up with his new City team-mates at LCFC Training Ground in Seagrave.
