James Justin reflects on Saturday’s 2-0 success over Southampton
Jamie Vardy and Jordan Ayew got the goals at King Power Stadium
The right-back was pleased to give the Foxes faithful something to cheer
He also credits Jakub Stolarczyk for his role in keeping a clean sheet
Jamie Vardy and Jordan Ayew got the goals in a 2-0 success over Southampton at King Power Stadium – the first league victory on Filbert Way since December. Although our relegation to the Sky Bet Championship is already confirmed, it was a cathartic moment for the Blue Army, and the players, to get a win under our belts.
“It’s definitely a weight off our shoulders and we’re happy in the dressing room,” Justin said after full-time. “We implemented the way we wanted to play and it ended in a good result for once, so everyone was happy.
“It came together. Obviously the game didn’t have too much of a say into the season, but it’s just nice to win in front of our fans, finally giving them a goal and a clean sheet.
“We were together all through the game and didn’t give away too many chances. That’s what we need to do to improve going forward and looking forward to next season, keeping the ball out of our own net.
“We’ll then stand a good chance with the quality we have in our team.”
Justin was pleased, too, for goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk, who came in for the injured Mads Hermansen, keeping a clean sheet ahead of a likely sustained run in the XI.
“We know what kind of ‘keeper he is day in and day out in training,” the right-back added. “He’s such a top guy as well, so it’s nice to see him get some more games in the Premier League.
“He’ll be up to 10 by the end of the season, which is a good milestone for him to continue on.”
Vardy, on the other hand, netted his 199th goal for the Club, ahead of his summer departure after 13 glorious years at Leicester City. Justin says he and his team-mates have a role to play to help our greatest-ever player reach the 200-mark and sign off in style in LE2.
He said: “We’re trying everything for him, to get him to 200, and we’ll keep setting him up and he’ll keep doing his thing and putting the ball away.”
