We host Swansea City in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday
Gary Rowett shared news on Jordan James’ potential return
The Manager also updated on Aaron Ramsey’s injury
The Wales midfielder picked up an injury on international duty last month and missed the Easter weekend clashes against Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday, in which the Foxes picked up two points, remaining inside the Sky Bet Championship bottom three.
Now focus turns to facing the Swans at King Power Stadium (3pm BST kick-off), with the 21-year-old in contention to be fit enough to be involved and will be assessed further on Friday.
“He’s done some work this morning, so we’ll see how he feels after that,” City’s Manager revealed on Thursday afternoon, speaking to the media. “We’re hopeful he might be available for the game. I’m pretty sure if he’s not, he’ll 100 per cent be available for the next game.
“We’ll see if this game has come a little bit too quickly. We’re giving him the best chance possible, so we’ll make a decision on that tomorrow.
“It was just his heel. He landed awkwardly on it and his heel was really bruised. If you’ve ever had that injury, every time you put your foot down, or decelerate, or land, it just creates a little bit of not a nice feeling.
“Until that goes away, it can be really hard to get rid of that and a fairly innocuous injury still keeps rolling on another day. Until he feels fine, there’s no point putting him out there or trying to get him to play.
“It’s been a day-to-day thing. We felt as though there was a chance for the first game of the Easter schedule. Of course, because of the proximity of the games, if you miss the first one, there’s every chance you might miss the second one, which is what happened.
“We’re hopeful, but sometimes these things are a little bit more unpredictable than you’d like them to be.”
Elsewhere, fellow midfielder Aaron Ramsey is moving closer to a return, more than three months on from his last appearance in a Leicester City shirt, with the trip to Portsmouth next Saturday a potential target for him.
Rammers had an injection, we’re hoping that settles the issue down,” the 52-year-old explained. “We’ll see how he fares. I don’t think he’ll be available for the weekend, but he's another one that, maybe, with a good week’s training next week, and if we can settle the issue, he might be available for the Portsmouth game.
“A couple picked up little bits this morning but we’re hopeful they are not too serious. When your training is competitive and you need it to be competitive, you just hope that everyone comes through that fine at this stage of the season.”
Jannik Vestergaard came back into the fold last week and has emerged unscathed following back-to-back substitute appearances at centre-back and centre-forward.
Rowett added on the 33-year-old Danish defender: “Absolutely, he’s in that position now (to start). He’s done a lot of training, he’s kept himself in good condition. He’s a player who obviously has great quality on the ball and great experience off it.
“He’s certainly available and an intelligent player. You saw his attitude when he came on as a striker. That’s great to see that he wants to do his bit for the team and you saw that again at the weekend. His quality in possession unlocked them a couple of times with some good passes and in the opposition box he’s a real threat.”
