  • In the Scottish Premiership, Henry Cartwright helped Falkirk defeat Kilmarnock
  • FA Cup wins for Sammy Braybrooke, Tom Wilson-Brown and Kian Pennant
  • Jayden Joseph also played in the first round for Tranmere Rovers
  • Woyo Coulibaly and Bilal El Khannouss featured across Europe
Bouncing back from the 4-0 loss at Celtic in midweek, those results see John McGlynn’s side sit fifth in the Scottish Premiership, only behind third-place Hibernian on goal difference, ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Livingston (3pm kick-off).
Sammy Braybrooke played throughout Newport County’s thrilling penalty shootout success over fellow Sky Bet League 2 side Gillingham in the Emirates FA Cup First Round last weekend.
Finishing 1-1 after 90 minutes, County went ahead during extra-time before a late equaliser sent it to penalties. Braybrooke stepped up from 12 yards and although his spot-kick was saved, David Hughes’ side emerged as 4-3 victors to seal a place in the second round, where they will face Boreham Wood away.
Coulibaly has made five Serie A appearances so far this season.

Before then, it’s back to league duties, hosting Walsall at Rodney Parade on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Jayden Joseph’s Tranmere Rovers exited the competition, however, losing 3-1 to Stockport County at Prenton Park. The 19-year-old defender was introduced in the 77th minute of the contest, having also come off the bench in midweek when Rovers drew 1-1 with Accrington Stanley.
That result saw Tranmere rise one place up to 17th in the fourth-tier standings, prior to travelling to meet Tom Wilson-Brown’s Swindon Town at the County Ground on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Wilson-Brown also featured in the FA Cup at the weekend, helping the Robins to a 2-1 extra-time win over third tier Rotherham United. Starting the tie at New York Stadium, the centre-back was replaced at half-time.
Kian Pennant came on as an 88th-minute substitute in another cup upset, assisting Gateshead’s 2-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane. Their reward is a second-round encounter with another League 2 side, Walsall, next month.

Enterprise National League action returns for the North East club tonight, meanwhile, making the trip to York City. Harry French could also be involved in the division this evening, as his Boston United side head to Altrincham (both 7:45pm kick-offs).
Into Europe, Woyo Coulibaly featured in successive Serie A fixtures for Sassuolo, starting a 2-1 away win at Cagliari, playing 90 minutes, before emerging as a 77th minute substitute in defeat to Genoa by the same scoreline three days later. Fabio Grosso’s men are on the road this Sunday, facing Atalanta (11:30am kick-off).
Another two starts for Bilal El Khannouss at VfB Stuttgart saw them beat Mainz 2-0 in the DFB-Pokal Cup Second Round before a 3-1 defeat to RB Leipzig back in the Bundesliga.
Hosting Augsburg on Sunday (4:30pm kick-off), there’s UEFA Europa League action coming up first on Thursday evening, facing Feyenoord at MHP Arena (8pm kick-off).
