Wes Morgan surprises Silver Foxes at Ulverscroft Manor
Silver Foxes is a group for Leicester City’s older supporters
Programme helps tackle social isolation and mental wellbeing
Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from 11 May to 17 May
Ahead of returning to Leicester for our 5000/1 Anniversary Match, Morgan dropped by a session to meet the participants and take part. Net proceeds from the 5000/1 celebration will support important work within our communities through the VS Foundation with funds raised to benefit causes like this at Leicester City in the Community and its work across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Thirty-five Silver Foxes members joined Wes for an enjoyable afternoon in the scenic surroundings of Ulverscroft Manor, where they shared tea and coffee, fed the resident deer and took part in a Wes Morgan-themed quiz.
The event gave members of the Silver Foxes the chance to spend time with one of our most iconic captains, while also highlighting the importance of social connection and wellbeing.
Led by our charitable arm, the Silver Foxes programme is designed for older supporters, helping them tackle social isolation, improve mental wellbeing and provide opportunities to get out, meet others and make new friends.
Participants meet every fortnight in the Community Hub at King Power Stadium, where they take part in a range of engaging social activities.
Wes, who famously captained us to the Premier League title in 2016, spent time chatting with participants, posing for photos and hearing their stories and memories of following the Foxes over the years.
He said: “It's fantastic to be here and to hear all the stories. Silver Foxes is a group that meets up twice a month to do activities and be together, which is great. Being part of a group like this is fantastic to combat social isolation. It's a big moment for them in a month and something they all look forward to.
“You can hear them behind us having a laugh and a great time. The social and mental health aspect of it all is so, so important. It's been great to be here and a privilege to meet everybody."
Leicester City in the Community use the power of football to bring people together and support those of all ages across our region, with the Silver Foxes playing an important role in reducing loneliness and promoting positive mental health among older fans.
Mental Health Awareness Week shines a light on the importance of staying connected and this memorable visit was a fitting way to celebrate that message.
