LCFC Women were beaten 3-1 by Chelsea in the Barclays WSL on Sunday afternoon
Sam Kerr, Lauren James (x2) and Shannon O’Brien scored at King Power Stadium
Manager Rick Passmoor reacted to the final home performance of the season
It’s been a tough week for the Foxes, who after losing 5-1 to London City Lionesses, had to face an in-form Arsenal side at Emirates Stadium just three days later.
Picking ourselves back up after that defeat, we faced Chelsea in our final home game of the season, in which Shannon O’Brien scored to reduce the arrears, following a Sam Kerr goal and Lauren James' brace for the visitors in the first half. “It only takes one tackle, or one header, to get this crowd behind you and as you can see, they do support us and we’re grateful for that, home and away,” our Manager explained post-match.
Shannon O'Brien scored her sixth goal of the season against Chelsea.
“For 60 minutes, even though it was 3-1, we really represented the Club and gave an identity and gave full value in terms of work rate and passion, and that’s the minimum you accept.
“We brought them in at half-time and had a little change on the tactical setup. It gave us a platform to work from and battle, win duels, and then we got a goal which changed the momentum.
“It gave us confidence, and for the rest of the game, we can be very proud of what we’ve done in Leicester blue.”
Pleased to see a reaction from his team once we found the net, the Manager stated this is the minimum he wants to see from the Foxes, who travel to Everton on Saturday 16 May (1pm BST kick-off) to end the regular season.
After that, we’ll take on Charlton Athletic at the Valley a week later, in a play-off match to determine which division we will be competing in next year.
Our Manager thanked the Foxes faithful for incredible support all season.
“What we have to do at the moment is look at confidence building, look at momentum, and that’s across the next game against Everton and then into the play-off,” Passmoor continued.
“Today, there are plenty if positives we can look at, review, and work on in training, so that we can continue to progress.
“We want to play that way for 100 minutes so from the first whistle, we need to have that mentality, belief and passion, and then rule the pitch.
“Win your one-vs-ones, outfight your opponent and then that gives you an opportunity to play in possession, but you’ve got to start from the first whistle.
“At the end of a long season, those are the bits that will get us through. It’s not about tactics, it’s about individually standing up and fighting for the shirt and fighting together because the spirit will get you through and get you a result.”
