A 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa saw LCFC Women remain bottom of the Barclays WSL
Defender Julie Thibaud looked back on the key moments from Sunday’s reverse
Alisha Lehmann scored prior to Villa’s second-half comeback to earn victory
Second-half strikes from Anna Patten and Kirsty Hanson saw the Villans claim the points at King Power Stadium, leaving us 12th in the Barclays Women’s Super League and without a win this calendar year.
Despite the positives of going ahead in the first half, when Alisha Lehmann finished off a free-flowing team move, it was the manner of the goals conceded which irked Thibaud, who believes we must do better in certain areas of our defensive work.
“I think we are really disappointed with the result,” the French defender expressed post-match. “When you are winning 1-0 at half-time, of course you expect to do better in the second half.
“We know we are bottom of the league table and we need to fight for every game, every point, every goal. I think today we fought in the first half really good, everyone was on board, it was really good. Maybe in the second half we need to keep it up.
“There’s a lot of frustration, disappointment, of course. It’s always really frustrating to concede goals, but when you see the goals, you know you can avoid them and it’s even more frustrating.
“We need to work on it. Every detail is important. High level football is like that, it’s small details. You need to be perfect and we cannot concede these types of goals.”
A disappointing ending to proceedings.
Brighton & Hove Albion present the next opposition for the Foxes this Sunday (3pm GMT kick-off), with another opportunity to put points on the board on Filbert Way. Confidence can be taken into that fixture, the centre-back assured. “I know with this team, with these players we have in the group, we’re going to fight until the end,” the 27-year-old added. “It’s not done yet. We just keep pushing and working in training and in the games. I’m sure we’re going to get some points.
“The first half will help to stay positive. We had a lot of good things in this game, so I think it will help to look forward and we have four big games but all the games are big for us.
“We know we have to fight against everyone. Next week we play at home again and it’s always difficult to come here. We want to make it difficult and keep going again.”
