Jacob, eight, from Loughborough, helped to save his mum’s life last year after she collapsed at home suffering from septic shock. Living with ADHD and often finding it difficult to concentrate, he stayed calm under pressure, calling an ambulance and then guiding paramedics into their home when life-saving help arrived.
That bravery has since been celebrated locally with Jacob chosen to switch on the Loughborough Christmas lights, before being invited onto ITV’s This Morning, where hosts Dermot O’Leary and Christine Lampard had one final surprise up their sleeves.
Producing a letter from his beloved Leicester City, they revealed that Jacob – sat on the sofa with his cuddly toy, Ralph, alongside his mum Hollie – would be a mascot for our match against West Brom on Monday 5 January.
Arriving at King Power Stadium a few weeks later, Jacob’s special day arrived, as he soaked up the pre-match atmosphere, mingling with the players and taking in the sights and sounds of matchday behind the scenes.
Bumping into the likes of Jordan James and Abdul Fatawu in the tunnel made the occasion even more memorable, before Jacob headed onto the turf for a kick-about with Filbert Fox as both teams completed their warm-ups.
Joined by fellow mascots Leo and Archie, the big moment soon arrived. Hand in hand with City captain Ricardo Pereira, Jacob proudly led us onto the pitch, greeted by the roar of the Foxes faithful – giving him and his family memories to last a lifetime.
The night ended perfectly too as Leicester gave Jacob more to celebrate, securing a 2-1 victory over the Baggies. Goals from Jordan Ayew and Fatawu – who struck a thrilling added-time winner – ensured we claimed all three points in dramatic fashion.
