Jordan James was brought off during the midweek draw with Hull City
The midfielder remains in contention to play some part against Millwall
Manager Gary Rowett was speaking ahead of Friday night’s fixture
Our relegation to Sky Bet League One was confirmed as a result of that scoreline, with a final home fixture of the Sky Bet Championship season to come on Friday night against Millwall (8pm BST kick-off).
Ahead of the clash with the Lions at King Power Stadium, City’s Manager outlined the latest on Wales international James, who was substituted in the 62nd-minute in midweek due to the reoccurrence of a heel injury.
“He limped off and to be fair to JJ, he put himself out there,” the 52-year-old commented on the Rennes loanee, speaking in Thursday’s pre-match press conference. “I don’t think he’s been close to fully fit in the games he’s been back for.
“For a young player who has come and added so much value to what’s of course been a tough season, we also want to make sure we don’t end up playing him so that he then has a serious problem that just won’t go away.
“He’ll make himself available, we’ll decide what that looks like for the game, but I think it’s unlikely at this point that he starts. He landed awkwardly on it just before he came off and he needed to come off. It’s still his heel.”
Talking more broadly on the injury front, Rowett expects to be without one or two who will be assessed to see whether they could play a role in the penultimate match of the campaign.
“There will be a couple of fresh injuries,” he confirmed. “I think there will be players who have been trying to get through some of the games and of course when you get to this situation, maybe at this point you have to make slightly more sensible decisions with one of two.
“I’d like to hope that we’ll have a pretty full squad to pick from, from those players.”
