  • We made our annual Christmas visit to the LRI on Wednesday afternoon
  • Players went to various wards and took part in interactive games with patients and their families
  • The visit followed on from last weekend’s double-header of matches at King Power Stadium, supporting Leicester Hospitals Charity
The City delegation spent time meeting patients, families and hospital staff across various wards, bringing festive cheer and distributing gifts, with players split into three groups to ensure as many patients as possible could be included in the visit.

Following a tradition similar to previous years, two groups visited patients who are more seriously ill and unable to leave their beds, with gifts delivered directly to them on wards including the Children’s Intensive Care Unit, Oncology and Emergency Department.
Meanwhile, another group of players were based in one of the hospital’s playrooms, where they joined in a host of fun activities alongside patients who were well enough to leave their beds, taking part in interactive games, creating memorable moments and offering a welcome distraction during what can be a challenging time of year.
Speaking after the visit, our captain Ricardo Pereira praised the work of hospital staff and the resilience of the young patients and their families, highlighting the importance of giving back to the community, particularly at Christmas.

“Visits like this are always incredibly special for us,” he said. “To be able to spend some time with the children, their families and the brilliant hospital staff, particularly at this time of year, is a real privilege.
“If we can help bring a few smiles and provide a positive distraction, even for a short time, it’s a powerful reminder of why these visits matter.”
The visit to the LRI followed last weekend’s double-header of fixtures on Filbert Way, which celebrated Leicester Hospitals Charity, with their logo appearing on the front of our shirts for games against Ipswich Town and London City Lionesses.

Funds raised on both matchdays went to the Parent Facilities Appeal, helping to create private, comfortable spaces for parents of critically ill children to remain close to their loved ones, ensuring families have the emotional support they need during the most challenging moments of their lives.
Leicester Hospitals Charity exists to support patients, their carers and the NHS staff who look after them in Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and beyond.
