His love for the Foxes began in the 1970s, when Norwegian television began broadcasting English football every Saturday. Soon making the trip to watch his first live game at Filbert Street, Per continues to regularly attend games.
“In the early years, most matches shown were from the Midlands, and Leicester were featured relatively often,” he explained. “Players such as Keith Weller, Jon Sammels, Steve Whitworth, Allan Birchenall, Peter Shilton, Frank Worthington, and many others impressed me greatly.
“I watched my first Leicester match in Norway in 1976 in the neighbouring town of Skien and Leicester won 4-1. Since then, I have watched Leicester live 129 times, with QPR away the last match. I will be present at King Power Stadium against Oxford United, Southampton, QPR and Millwall in the coming months!”
Established in 1994, the group’s members are now spread all over Norway, including Per’s hometown of Notodden, a small town south of Oslo with a population of 13,000. Known as the ‘Blues town’ of Europe, famous artists gather there every August for a yearly festival. While a few of the 150 members reside in Sweden and Denmark, they come together at least once a season.
Per told us: “We try to see every City match, either through Foxes Hub or ViaPlay. Some of us meet up at a local pub or watch it at home. We also organise a group trip for the last home match each season, which we combine with a Player of the Season presentation. Jamie Vardy, I’ve met him a few times, once when he received the 2018 Player of the Season Award from Leicester City Supporters Club Scandinavian Branch.”
