Facing a tall order to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition following three defeats in the opening round of fixtures, the young Foxes headed to Portman Road having lost out to the Tractor Boys in Seagrave two weeks ago.
And it was the home side who claimed another victory this time around, Luca Fletcher scoring the only goal of the game on 17 minutes, after a defensive lapse allowed the attacker to finish into an empty net.
The hosts had threatened early on, too, with Ryan Carr rattling the crossbar, and came close to a second through Josh Pitts, though Harry French kept him at bay.
At the other end, Brandon Cover struck the post from Logan Briggs’ set up before the break and would later be denied again with 10 minutes to play, courtesy of Woody Williamson’s impressive stop in a one-on-one situation.
The side coached by Leon McSweeney kept pushing for the equaliser and Kirsten Otchere might have found it, sending his effort into the side netting in stoppage time, unable to level the scores.
It leaves Leicester fourth in PL Cup Group C, without a point after four matches. Heading to Charlton Athletic on Tuesday 16 December, City entertain Preston North End three days later (both 7pm kick-offs) to conclude the group stage.
Before then, we welcome FC Nordsjælland to LCFC Training Ground for a Premier League International Cup clash next Tuesday (7pm kick-off).
The details
City: French, Amartey (c), Gray, Khela, Ali; Cover, Onanaye; Evans, Briggs, Richards; Otchere.
All times GMT.
