Supporters at both games will be encouraged to donate towards improving facilities for families on the Children’s Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at Leicester Royal Infirmary - a lifeline for parents whose children are critically ill.
Special-edition shirts featuring Leicester Hospitals Charity on the front will be worn in fixtures against Ipswich Town and London City Lionesses.
At the heart of the appeal is Michelle and her daughter, Evie, whose story reflects the fear, resilience and hope experienced by families in CICU every day.
Evie spent 46 days in CICU - weeks filled with uncertainty and moments Michelle described as “the hardest, most frightening time of my life”.
Her journey began when she was just eight weeks old with bronchiolitis, but things became far more serious last October when a routine check revealed dangerously low oxygen levels.
“What we thought was a virus turned out to be something far more serious. Evie has a rare congenital heart defect and a condition that affects her liver and lungs.”
In December, Evie deteriorated suddenly. She was intubated and taken to CICU - a moment Michelle says she will never forget.
“Seeing my baby like that - wires, machines and monitors everywhere - and not knowing if she’d survive another night… it was terrifying.”
Evie spent Christmas, and even her first birthday, in hospital. Throughout everything, Michelle says, the medical teams were extraordinary.
“The doctors and nurses saved her life. I will never, ever be able to thank them enough.”
Today, after major surgery and months of treatment, Evie is home - off oxygen, going to nursery and bringing joy every day.
“She’s doing so well now. She’s our little miracle.”
While Evie received lifesaving care, Michelle experienced first-hand how limited the facilities are for parents on CICU.
Some nights, she slept on a fold-out bed in a playroom. Other nights, she moved between different rooms, often packing up her things day after day.
“What people don’t realise is how vital it is for parents to stay close by when their child is in intensive care, but on CICU, there are only three parent bedrooms for up to seven families.
“There was nowhere to truly rest, no private space to cry or gather my thoughts. Even the showers were on a different ward. I spent weeks feeling like I had nowhere to go - all while trying to stay strong for Evie.
“When your child is fighting for their life, you don’t want luxury. You just need somewhere to breathe. Somewhere to be close. Somewhere to cope.”
