LCFC Women return to WSL action this weekend
Amandine Miquel’s side make the trip to face Manchester United
The fixture kicks off at 12:30pm at Leigh Sports Village
Janina Leitzig has previewed the clash
Returning from the international break with fire in the belly, following the Foxes 3-0 win over Aston Villa last time out, the German shot-stopper has looked ahead to the Man Utd test. Understanding the enormity of the occasion that awaits them, the former Bayern Munich ‘keeper remains confident in her side’s abilities.
City's No.1 has kept three clean sheets this season.
“It’s a big game and we’re looking forward to it,” Leitzig stated. “Today was the first training session that we were all together, so it’s quite a short preparation. “But I think it’s good to go away to the national team, see something different and come back with full energy.
“I see it as a positive, of course you have less time to prepare, but everyone knows our game plan now and our principles so it shouldn’t be anything new.”
On Friday afternoon, it was confirmed that Janice Cayman had won the Barclays Women’s Super League Goal of the Month award for February, after a stunning volley from outside the box against the Villans. Commenting on what an accolade like this can do for the individual's and team’s morale, Leitzig was keen to talk about the point gained against Chelsea, as they go up against another formidable opponent who have only lost once all season. Looking ahead to Man Utd.
“It was nice to see Janice get the award, and everyone was happy for her,” the German goalkeeper added. “It was a really important and a nice goal so it’s more than deserved.
“The most important thing is to keep the intensity high now and go into the game with the right mentality.
“We drew against Chelsea so we know we can get points from any game, and we know their qualities, but we have qualities as well, so if we turn up with the right mentality, stay focused and play with confidence, I think everything is possible.”
