The Wales international joined Leicester City on a three-year deal on Friday, just hours before training for the first time in front of the Blue Army at King Power Stadium.

That open training session in LE2 was the perfect introduction to life in Leicester for the 27-year-old, who has 15 caps to his name with his country.

Having spent the entirety of his career in Swansea, his boyhood club, barring one brief loan spell, it was a big decision to move away to join Russell Martin’s Foxes.

“I’m really excited,” he told us in Seagrave this week, in an interview you can watch exclusively on the LCFC App. “I’m just buzzing to be here now and I can’t wait to get started.

“Leaving home, I was [at Swansea for] 19 years, obviously a fan of the club having come through there, so it was a big decision to leave.

“But when this opportunity came about, the size of the Club, and the project that they’re trying to get started now, I just thought it was a perfect fit for me to be honest. I’m just really glad we managed to get it done.

"It's just really exciting to be honest. Everything about the Club is positive. Obviously, the last couple of years have been disappointing, but the way the Club want to go and hopefully return to where the Club wants to be is a really exciting time.”

On the impact former Swans manager Martin had on his decision to join City, Cullen added: “I loved playing under him. Speaking to him when I knew I was going to come here, he’s not changed one bit.

“Hopefully it’ll be pretty easy for me to settle into the training and the way he wants to play because I’ve done it before. Hopefully we can see that on the pitch. He’s just a really positive guy.

“The way he wants to play football, I think, suits me really well. Obviously, he wants to keep the ball, play in the opposition’s half, and then create a load of chances and score loads of goals. If we give it away, he likes to win it back really quickly, which I feel is one of my strengths. Like I said, hopefully I can take that onto the pitch.

“I’m a player that likes to play either on the top line, or just behind the striker as a no.10. I’m a player that likes to get in the box and try and get on the end of passes and crosses and score goals. Hopefully I’ll be able to create a little bit as well.

“I’ve chopped and changed positions a little bit, so I am quite versatile in terms of where the Manager wants to play me. The main thing is to score goals and help the team win games and push the Club back to where we want to be.

“I hope I can justify why the Manager and the Club have brought me here, which is obviously what I’m desperate to do. I had a brilliant connection and always will have a brilliant connection with the Swansea fans.

“I’m going to keep a close eye on them because they’re my home club but I’m just really looking forward to giving my all for this Club now and hopefully it can be a really successful period.”
