We were beaten 2-1 by Luton Town in Sky Bet League One at the weekend
Liam Cullen scored our goal at Kenilworth Road and reflected on the defeat
Wigan Athletic are up next for the Foxes at King Power Stadium on Tuesday
It’s the first of back-to-back home games against the Latics and Stevenage
Having beaten Doncaster Rovers and Bromley in successive Sky Bet League One matches, we headed to Kenilworth Road in confident mood, though it was the Hatters who claimed all three points on Saturday, with Callum Marshall scoring the winner four minutes into added time.
A disappointing end to a game we worked so hard to get back into, with Cullen equalising late on after John Lundstram’s red card to cancel out Nakhi Wells’ opener, City were unable to keep out the late pressure with 10 men.
“It’s a really frustrating one,” the midfielder admitted. “Obviously, we found ourselves behind. It wasn’t really the first half that we wanted. But we came out in the second half better than we were in the first half.
“The red card changed the game a little bit, so we tweaked it a little bit in a way to try and get more bodies forward. We managed to get the goal and got ourselves back in the game, which obviously we were always going to try and do and we did that.
“And then when you’re down a man away from home, I think everyone would have taken a point in the end. I think it’s up to us to manage the game a little bit better and see that out. I think it’s a day of real learning.”
Coming off the bench with Leicester a goal down in the 83rd minute, the former Swansea City man made a big impact, curling a strike into the corner right in front of our sold out away end.
A terrific finish and a moment to savour with the Blue Army, it ultimately did not lead to a draw on the road.
“Obviously, it was a brilliant moment for me,” the 27-year-old continued. “To equalise right in front of our crowd, who are unbelievable every away game, they come in their numbers and they really push us on.
“It was a really nice moment for me. I’m just disappointed we couldn’t see that out and come away with at least a point. There were seven minutes added so we had to dig in really deep and not give up chances.
“I think that was one of their only chances [in the] second half. They have two shots, so it’s a really frustrating one from that point of view.”
Wigan Athletic visit King Power Stadium on Tuesday evening (7:45pm kick-off) as we look to bounce back from the weekend’s frustrations and Cullen is seeing it as a big opportunity, with Stevenage also due on Filbert Way this Saturday (3pm kick-off).
“I think that’s the beauty of this league,” he added. “When you have a disappointing day, you’ve usually got another game in three days to go and put it right.
“Hopefully we can go and back our last two wins up with two wins at home and put a really good run of form together at our ground, because I think, to be where we want to be, that would be massive.”
