Leicester City drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday
Luke Thomas gave his take on an entertaining Premier League encounter
Conor Coady and Facundo Buonanotte were the goalscorers for the Foxes
A Conor Coady opener had the Foxes ahead at the City Ground, but Nuno Espírito Santo’s side, chasing a spot in Europe for next season, turned the game on its head with goals either side of half-time from Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood.
It took a superb 81st-minute goal from Facundo Buonanotte to get us back on the level terms – the substitute receiving the ball from Jamie Vardy before weaving his way past the Forest defence and beating Matz Sels. That led to pandemonium in the away end, as the Blue Army toasted a point on the road against our East Midlands rivals.
“It was an exciting game throughout really,” the full-back reflected post-match. “Obviously, we took the lead and then went behind in the second half and showed character to get back in it and pick up a point, which is a good result for us.
“That’s what we’ve been looking for every week, just to keep going. We’re obviously already relegated so it’s tough, but we’ve shown that today by picking up a result. I’m sure the travelling fans will be happy on the way home.
“Being a Leicester lad, I know what a game like this means to the supporters. We’ve been before in the cup and had tough times. We weren’t good at all on that day, but today I felt we gave them what they wanted.”
For a brief few moments, the defender found himself in a much more advanced position and he admitted he relished the opportunity of contributing in the final third.
The 23-year-old explained: “I’ve played in the no.10 role a couple of times in training and I wasn’t necessarily thinking I was going to go into that role today, but I was for about 10 minutes and I enjoyed it.
“In such a tight position as that, you’ve got to know what’s around you and players are going to be up you so you’ve got to look at setting the ball, taking fewer touches to what you would do as a full-back when you have a little bit more time.”
Just two matches remain in the Premier League season, with Ipswich Town making the trip to King Power Stadium next Sunday, before we head to AFC Bournemouth on the final day. The objective to collect two more positive results is clear, having now taken four from the last six available.
“We want to win as many games as we can,” he added. “We’ve only got two left but hopefully we can pick up results there.”
