Ruby Mace made her senior England debut on Tuesday
Hannah Cain converted from the spot for Wales
Wales & Belgium secured passage to UEFA Women's EURO 2025
Sophie Howard's Scotland narrowly missed out
A history-making moment came earlier this week when midfielder Mace made her senior debut for England, playing her part in a 1-0 friendly win over Switzerland, becoming our first-ever Lioness. Named in Sarina Wiegman's starting line-up at Bramall Lane, the City player had to wait her turn, remaining on the bench for England's goalless draw against USA at Wembley Stadium.
The Man City academy graduate, that made a permanent move to the East Midlands last summer, played over an hour and was on the field for Grace Clinton's goal that settled the scoreline in Sheffield.
Elsewhere in Europe, City player's were giving their all in the final round of EURO qualifiers to earn their space at next year's competition. Hannah Cain's Wales and Belgium, including Janice Cayman and Sari Kees in their squad, confirmed their spot, while Sophie Howard's Scotland narrowly missed out to the absent Jutta Rantala's Finland. Cain set Wales on their way to victory on Tuesday evening, scoring from the penalty spot before former Fox Carrie Jones ensured the win later on in the second half. They won 2-1 in the second game, following a 1-1 draw at Cardiff City Stadium.
Leicester duo Cayman and Kees also saw out two wins over Ukraine during the break, coming out as 2-0 victors in the first leg before winning the second game 2-1 at home. Kees played every minute across the fixtures while Cayman was only absent for the final 30 minutes of the second .
Elation after converting from the spot.
It was a disappointing moment for Scotland's ever-present Howard, meanwhile, who played every minute in the qualifiers against Finland, but after a clean sheet and goalless draw at Easter Road Stadium, it was the Fins that took the spot at next year's tournament, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Natalia Kuikka and Nea Emilia Lehtola.
At the Under-23s level, two Foxes went head-to-head when England and Sweden met on Monday evening; Missy Goodwin and Emilia Pelgander started for either side in a clash which fell in Sweden's favour, who won 2-1 following on from their 4-0 win over Portugal four days prior. Goodwin also played a part in 0-0 stalemate with Norway last week. Friendly action was also on the cards for Leicester's squad, including Lize Kop, who featured in Netherlands' 4-1 comeback win against China PR on Friday evening in Rotterdam. Down in Spain, Deanne Rose joined up with the Canada squad on camp and came on as a late substitute in a 0-0 draw with Iceland before being handed a start and lasting over an hour in an emphatic 5-1 win over South Korea on Tuesday at Pinatar Arena Football Center. Missy Goodwin made back-to-back starts for the Young Lionesses.
Finishing off with Jamaica and Australia, Chantelle Swaby started in both of the Reggae Girlz' wins over South Africa (3-0 and 3-2) while Courtney Nevin played 60 minutes in Australia's second match against Brazil, losing 2-1 on the Gold Coast. The full squad now returns to Belvoir Drive to prepare for the return to Barclays Women's Super League action when they face Manchester City at Joie Stadium on Sunday afternoon (1pm GMT kick-off).
