We drew 1-1 with Wrexham in the Sky Bet Championship
Jordan James scored the opener before a Nathan Broadhead equaliser
Manager Martí Cifuentes gave his take on a fourth consecutive draw
He was disappointed with several aspects of the second half performance
The Foxes led in the first half courtesy of Jordan James’ opener - his first for the Club – but Nathan Broadhead’s equaliser 13 minutes from time ensured a share of the spoils for the Welsh side.
Frustrated to draw for the fourth successive Sky Bet Championship fixture, City’s Manager acknowledged that his side needed to do more in order to claim all three points on Filbert Way.
“I’m very disappointed today,” he commented post-match. “I felt that we threw the three points after a good start to the game. I definitely felt that, as opposed to some of the last few games, where perhaps we were growing through the game and we finished very good, today was the opposite.
“We had a very good first half, playing through them, having good control. Actually, in the first half, the best chance they got was a mistake from us. It can happen; football is a game where mistakes are a big part of it.
“I think we scored a very good goal but then at half-time we talked about the need to score more goals. Not only about trying to control, to keep the advantage, but make sure that we could score as many goals as we could, because we know, in the Championship especially, the games can shift a lot.
“It’s very difficult to have full control for 90 minutes and unfortunately through the second half we weren’t getting better and it was frustrating.”
First half positives included a goal of real quality involving Harry Winks and Patson Daka, one of the four who came into the side from Friday night, before being finished by James, and Cifuentes is keen to see more of that from all parts of the pitch.
On the goal, the 43-year-old said: “It shows that we can really play through the positions to score as well, from central situations which are important to our game, so it doesn’t only come from the wingers, it doesn’t only come from attacking from the wide areas.
“I think it was a brilliant execution from all the guys involved. I’m happy to see that some of the guys who we bring in today, making some changes from the last line-up, gave us some of the things that we were looking for.”
Facing a side who sat in deep, it required more creativity to break down the Red Dragons, he believes, but called for everyone to learn and move on together as the Championship season continues.
He analysed: “We had a lot of possession and we were creating some shots, but we only had one [goal] and according to all the quality that we have and according to the time we spent in the last third, we should be much better than this.
“It’s something that we need to address and improve and definitely it is frustrating because we need to understand that in this league, we need to play at 110 per cent all of the time, otherwise the opposition will have their moments as well, as it was.
“I will always be positive; I will always be optimistic. I know that today all of the fans will feel as disappointed as all of us were. Everyone knows it was very disappointing not to get the three points.
“But I think that we need to have this feeling of building a family. We are going to have bad days, we are going to have better days, but we need to stick together, because that’s the only way to build something and that’s exactly the message that I said to the guys. We need to look at ourselves.
“It’s a good signal that we are so disappointed with a draw. We will never feel happy to only get one point. It’s definitely very important to be self-critical and analyse what we could have done better in this second half.”
