Leicester City entertain the Serie A side – an accomplished European outfit over recent campaigns – for their final friendly of the summer ahead of next weekend’s Sky Bet Championship curtain-raiser against Sheffield Wednesday.
The new Manager, who has overseen a camp in Austria and the subsequent week in Seagrave, is beginning to see the squad adapt to his methods – and the intent to build a side who compete on the front-foot, always looking to be the dominant team.
First assessing our summer so far, the 43-year-old said: “Of course, it was really good for me to arrive and get the opportunity to spend time, in Austria, with the guys. We spoke not only on the pitch but [off] the pitch as well, to get to know them a little bit better collectively and individually.
“This has been a tough week with a lot of hours on the pitch as well, but also time to [watch] videos, to analyse a little bit the good things we did in Austria, and some things we want to improve obviously. It’s been very productive so far.”
Now ready to make his Filbert Way debut, as a home manager at least, Cifuentes is looking forward to the unique test which Fiorentina will pose on Sunday.
“I’m so excited,” he added. “I’m looking forward, with my staff and my players, to get back into King Power Stadium. I’ve been here away an away manager, so to have an opportunity to be the home manager, and feel the crowd, is so exciting.
“We’re going to play against a very good team that will be demanding because of the way they play. They play a lot man-to-man and they are obviously a good club in Serie A. It’s going to be a very good test to see where we are, but I’m really looking forward to feeling my new home.”
