  • The Leicester City Under-21s beat Newcastle United 6-3 last time out
  • Jake Evans scored a hat-trick in the PL2 fixture
  • The Foxes sit 11th in the standings with 21 points
  • Leon McSweeney shared his thoughts on the recent performances
Three wins from three, scoring 14 goals in the process, has caught the eye of many, something the coach believes the team is deserving of.
Picking up momentum since the turn of the year, City have started to play with freedom but remain disciplined in the approach, says McSweeney.
“It’s really exciting,” he confirmed. “The challenge we’ve set the players was to turn their possession dominance into the scoreline and at the moment we can’t ask for any more.
“It’s exciting to watch with the players we have in the attacking areas of the pitch. They are players that should be dominating PL2 football, and the style of play gets the best out of them.”

One youngster in particular that is taking to PL2 football is Jake Evans, who netted three in our win against the Magpies, taking his tally to nine in the competition.
Continuing to progress week by week, McSweeney admitted the forward has been a revelation to watch, as he takes every challenge into his stride.
“He (Evans) is a great kid to work with,” the coach continued. “First and foremost, when they come in, you want them to have that hunger and desire and he certainly has that so the work rate he’s put in is great, and he’s got the quality to go along with it.
“We’ve moved him across the front line to test him, on the right, left and through the middle to keep stretching him and he keeps coming up with the answers. His goal record speaks for itself and long may that continue.”
With plenty of the Academy shining, McSweeney was proud to say it is a great time to be working within the youth set-up in Seagrave, and although targets look different compared to First Team football, he hopes that the Under-21s can continue to reap the rewards from their performances.
McSweeney urges the young Foxes to keep working for one another.

The coach added: “It’s an exciting time, being the gatekeeper really, to the progression of these players. All we do is provide a platform for them to express themselves. They’re embracing the step up and they’re flourishing.
“Our job is to keep the hammer down on them and not let them slack off until they get to where they want to be, which is with the First Team.
“In terms of targets, development football works differently to the First Team; results are the byproducts of performances. We want to build consistency in terms of style and showcasing our talents.
“We’ve done that largely in a lot of our games, and we’re always building and right now confidence is high which is what you need when working with young players.
“It’s about not letting them forget that they need to keep running and working for each other and fighting to get the ball back when we lose it. Those are the pillars we build everything on because that’s where success comes from.”
