Nelly Las featured for England U19s in the UEFA Women’s Euros on Wednesday
The Young Lionesses lost out to Portugal in their second Group B fixture
A win against Spain in Saturday’s 6pm kick-off would seal a semi-final spot
A dramatic late turnaround saw the Young Lionesses fall to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of new Group B leaders Portugal in Tarnobrzeg, leaving Lauren Smith’s side bottom with one match to play in the group stage, but with all four teams on three points having each won one and lost one.
Having had a goal disallowed early on, England eventually led at half-time courtesy of Iara Lobo’s deflected own goal in stoppage-time at the end of the first period, though Carolina Santiago levelled up the scores with less than a quarter of an hour to play.
It's back to the training pitch ahead of Saturday's showdown with Spain in Poland.
Anna Marques quickly put Marisa Gomes’ team ahead for the first time and a penalty, converted by Marta Gago suddenly had Portugal in control of the contest.
Defender Las, an unused substitute on matchday one, came off the bench in the 83rd minute, replacing Rachel Maltby straight after the spot-kick, but a second of the match from Santiago, in the final minute of normal time, settled the tie in Portugal’s favour.
It’s now all to play for against current holders Spain on Saturday, a 6pm kick-off at Stadium Stalowa Wola, as England bid to reach the knockout stages of the competition, knowing that victory will guarantee a place in the semi-finals.
