We were 2-1 winners at Norwich City in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday
Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Jordan James turned the match on its head
Mathias Kvistgaarden had earlier given the Canaries the lead
Manager Martí Cifuentes was delighted with the togetherness on show
Mathias Kvistgaarden’s strike just after the hour-mark put Liam Manning’s Canaries in front at Carrow Road, but Cifuentes’ side continued to battle in East Anglia.
Bobby De Cordova-Reid, who had just emerged from the bench, levelled matters with a sweetly-struck half-volley with 15 minutes to play before Jordan James’ added-time header sealed it. This is a first win in six games for Leicester City, as we climb to 12th in the table, four points off the play-offs ahead of the international break, and Cifuentes was pleased with much of what he saw.
“We are all very glad,” he said afterwards. “Especially because I think we finished as the better team but also the mentality of the guys was brilliant after this difficult period where [Norwich] took the lead.
“I’m very happy for the group and I’m very happy for the fans. The guys, for many moments, especially in the second half, played really good. That’s the way we want to play and we need to get more of this.
“The main thing is the mentality. We have been speaking with the guys about the things we wanted to improve and, credit to them, in the last two games, in terms of attitude, in terms of togetherness, this commitment, has been excellent.”
The Manager also credited De Cordova-Reid for his impact in the game, being the one to equalise for Leicester but also acting as a stimulus for their late improvement.
“He was brilliant,” Cifuentes added. “I think that Bobby can be a very important player for us. Definitely he has not been lucky with injuries since the start of the season.
“But he’s a very good player, experienced. He knows and understands the game and he had a real impact. Not just because of the goal, but the help he gave to the midfield, the way he found the pockets.
“I’m happy for all the bench’s impact. Stephy [Mavididi] played some good minutes and Luke [Thomas] coming in after the situation with Ben [Nelson] was very important as well. Everybody contributed.”
On match-winner James, who later claimed that he’d never scored a headed goal before, Cifuentes continued: “We told him he’s very good with headers so he could score.
“Definitely I think he’s a very important player for us as well. He has this capacity from the second line. He’s giving all his energy.
“He helped many parts of the game, not only with getting into the box, but as well in the high pressing and the counter-press and so on.
“I’m glad this goal gave us the three points and it’s well deserved for him.”
