Caleb Okoli reflects on our 2-1 Emirates FA Cup defeat by Manchester United
Bobby De Cordova-Reid's opener was cancelled out by Joshua Zirkzee and then Harry Maguire
Leicester City were level with the Red Devils until the 93rd minute at Old Trafford
It was a harsh ending in Manchester, but Okoli says we must keep our heads up
Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s 42nd-minute header had Leicester City on course for the fifth round at Old Trafford, but second-half goals from Joshua Zirkzee and then Harry Maguire – the latter in added time – condemned Ruud van Nistelrooy’s visitors to defeat. It was a harsh way to end a night which did have positives for City, with calls for offside going unanswered for United’s second goal. Okoli, though, is eager to remain upbeat as we now return to Premier League responsibilities with our status in the top flight at stake. “It was a very difficult way to end the game like this,” the Italy international said. “We were so unlucky on the result but I think it was a great performance from my team-mates and all the squad.
“The decision went against us but we’ll take the performance and try to do it in the Premier League. The main thing is that we have to look up and just keep going.
“We had a great first half and then we came into the second half and tried to deal with Man Utd. We know they were coming for us and at the end the result is unlucky.”
Okoli’s heroic block just before Man Utd’s equaliser was one of the highlights of City’s defensive display in Manchester. While happy to contribute, the former Atalanta centre-back is already focusing on the task of getting back to winning ways in the Premier League.
“In that moment, you don’t think, you just go and it went well,” he added. “I was happy for the clearance. We can restart from this performance and hopefully I get more and more starts in the Premier League.”
