Will Lankshear’s close-range ninth-minute finish gave the U’s the lead at Kassam Stadium, although Jordan Ayew’s first goal of 25/26 restored parity just four minutes later. A straight red card for new loan signing Aaron Ramsey was not in the script for City, who were behind a minute before the interval, after a Ben Davies header deflected off Boubakary Soumaré and into the back of the net.
Captain Ricardo Pereira, a second-half substitute, rescued a solitary point for Martí Cifuentes’ men, mind you, linking up well with Abdul Fatawu, later firing it low and hard into the far bottom corner 10 minutes into the second half. Although hoping to leave Oxfordshire with more, it’s nevertheless a hard-fought point for Leicester, who have an M69 derby to focus on now, as Coventry City are the visitors to King Power Stadium in a week’s time.
A tough start
Jordan Ayew
With three wins from our opening four league games, and four new faces through the door since our last game, there was optimism among the 1,476-strong away end.
Former City defender Gary Rowett’s Oxford, however, started on the front foot, with only a brave Luke Thomas block halting a fierce Przemysław Płacheta hit early on at Kassam Stadium. Within nine minutes, the home side led as well, as Lankshear applied the finish to Michał Helik’s drag-back from the left side of our penalty area.
That being said, Ayew was often a threat at the tip of our forward line. The Ghanian went close, forcing a firm save from Jamie Cumming, moments later and it was our No.9 who ultimately levelled the scores too. Cameron Brannagan’s loose back-pass handed him the opening, with Ayew taking a touch and slamming the equaliser through the goalkeeper to restore parity in a flash.

Oxford remained in the first-half ascendancy. Płacheta, the Oxford No.7, unleashed a wicked curler 15 minutes in from 20 yards out – crashing back off the bar, onto Jakub Stolarczyk’s back, although the Pole was able to prevent it trickling over the line.
Ramsey, making his first start for the Foxes after joining on loan from Burnley, also went close for the visitors, forcing Cumming into another solid stop. Almost immediately afterwards, though, the England youth international slid into a challenge on Filip Krastev. Surrounded by Oxford players, referee Ben Toner reached for his red card.
That seemed to tip the scales in the home side’s favour and Rowett’s men led before the break in a torrential late summer downpour. Brian De Keersmaecker's delivery was met by the head of Davies in the box and, via a deflection off Soumaré - making his 100th LCFC appearance – it flew past Stolarczyk and into the net.
Foxes fight back

Down to 10 men and chasing the game, it was turning into a tough afternoon for Leicester. With Harry Winks and Ricardo off the bench, though, Cifuentes had shuffled his pack – and it paid off just 10 minutes into the second period. There was fight from his Foxes, who were taking time on the ball, threading it through the lines.
Abdul Fatawu, always a menace on the flanks and roared on by the Blue Army behind him, slid the ball into Ricardo’s path in front of the away end. The Portuguese took over, riffling it across Cumming’s goal and into the far bottom corner to send those travelling Foxes fans into raptures.
Ayew went close again, curling inches wide, and there were handball claims when his cross was blocked by Sam Long as well. The latter moments ebbed and flowed, with half chances for each – Oliver Skipp’s blocked effort among them – but a point apiece was perhaps a fair reflection of a game where both sides had their moments.
