One of four dedicated local charities supported by the VS Foundation for the 2024/25 season, Rainbows provides specialist care to babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions across the East Midlands. The players spent time engaging with the children and their families, with much of the visit taking place in the Hospice’s outdoor space - which will undergo a refurbishment in the coming months.
This weekend’s game against Liverpool at King Power Stadium will recognise Rainbows, who support 750 babies, children, young people and their families across our region.
Money raised by City fans on Sunday will go towards a new Adventure Green Garden, an area designed for those at Rainbows to enjoy the great outdoors and make lasting memories at the Hospice.
Wilfred said: “It was humbling to visit Rainbows to meet all the incredible people and their families.
“Spending time with the children was very special to me and Patson and we’re proud to support them.
“Football can bring people together in powerful ways and seeing the smiles reminded us why it’s so important to give back.”
The visit marked another milestone in our longstanding relationship with Rainbows, strengthened by the legacy of our beloved late Chairman Khun Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, whose vision for our Club extended far beyond football.
The VS Foundation continues to embody that vision by supporting causes that uplift the local community – raising millions for local charities over recent years.
Julie Taylor, Executive Nurse & Director of Clinical Operations at Rainbows, said: “Adventure Green is going to be an area for our children to really enjoy the outdoors. The area in its current state is great in the summer, but not quite as practical during the winter, so we want to turn it into a space where our children and young people can come out at any time of the year to play sport and be active.
“When our children come to Rainbows, they come here to experience things they wouldn’t necessarily be able to do so at home.
“They can’t just go out to a local park for example, so it’s really important that our outdoor space is accessible and that we provide care inside and outside of Rainbows.”
HOW TO SUPPORT RAINBOWS
Donate: As a charity, Rainbows is almost entirely dependent on people like you to provide the funds that keeps its services going.
Whether you’re attending our dedicated matchday at King Power Stadium or simply looking to support Rainbows from home, every donation goes directly towards their efforts in ensuring every baby, child, young person and family can depend on Rainbows when they need them the most. Volunteer: The Hospice’s volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing a variety of experiences, backgrounds and skills, making them truly extraordinary!
No matter the role you are interested in, there is a common goal: together, Rainbows can make a difference to babies, children, young people and families in the East Midlands.
Some people want to make a positive difference to those Rainbows support, while others want to develop new skills or simply want to meet new people and have fun.
Whatever the reason, there are so many ways you can help, so if you have an hour to spare or a whole day, Rainbows would love to hear from you. Fundraise: Runners, bakers and superheroes unite… in fundraising to support the work done to help brighten short lives across the East Midlands.
Rainbows love talking to supporters and helping any way they can, so please contact your local Community Fundraiser who can help, or why not send an email or call the Hospice on 01509 638049.
