Kick-starting our pre-season trip to Austria in fine style, it was Jordan Ayew who netted the only goal across the border at ZTE Arena as we kept up our 100 per cent record against the Hungarian top division side.
It's also a winning start to Leicester life for new Manager Martí Cifuentes, as the schedule ramps up with a double-header this Friday when the squad will be utilised across clashes with FC Karpaty Lviv at Sportzentrum Friedberg at 10:30am before another test against FC Köln at the Merkur Arena in Graz at 4pm.
An aggressive style of play
Implementing his style.
Implementing his style.
In what was a first chance to see how Cifuentes plans on setting up his Foxes side, the Spaniard handed Academy outlets Jeremy Monga and Kasey McAteer freedom on the wings, with Bilal El Khannouss dictating play in the space behind Patson Daka.
Members of the midfield and defence were pressing ZTE in their own half in an attempt to win the ball back high up the pitch, too, more often than not resulting in a supportive cheer from our new Manager.
The overhaul of changes for the second period gave plenty of the group the chance to impress in front of the new man in charge, but the layout and structures put in place remained the same throughout.
Fatawu makes his return
A warm welcome back to the pitch for Abdul.
A warm welcome back to the pitch for Abdul.
A welcome moment came in the second half, as Ghanian winger Abdul Fatawu made his long-awaited return to the pitch, marking a significant point in his reovery, having sustained an ACL injury with his national team in November of last year.
An electric winger that can get the beating of any defender on his day, the Foxes faithful, along with Cifuentes, will be glad to see our No.7 back in action as he builds up fitness ahead of the Sky Bet Championship campaign.
Sealing the winner
It was a worthwhile test for City in their third friendly of the summer.
It was a worthwhile test for City in their third friendly of the summer.
City's dominance in the game grew as the minutes went by at ZTE Arena, and with 70 on the clock, the deadlock was broken. Taking matters into his own hands, Ayew drove into the box, weaving his way through the hosts' defence before firing a low effort beyond Bence Gundel-Takács.
Having already netted this pre-season, against OHL in Seagrave, the Ghanian's second in a week was enough to ensure a winning start for Cifuentes in his reign as Leicester Manager. The result will be pleasing for the Spaniard, but he will be looking at a number of metrics as he continues to assess the squad at his disposal this summer.
