LCFC Women came from behind to beat Birmingham City on Wednesday evening
City scored four in the first half at Meadow Lane
Leicester finished second in Group D of the Women's League Cup
Amandine Miquel believes this win will spark confidence in the team
Having only scored three times all season, City dramatically upped their scoring tally on Wednesday evening when they scored five against Birmingham in the Women's League Cup. Although it didn't mean much in the competition, as they were eliminated due to results elsewhere, the Manager understands the importance that scoring goals will have on the team.
"Of course it's disappointing to not get further in the competition, but on the game today, we are proud of the reactions because we didn't start well and we managed to score one goal, which is what we've been waiting for, for weeks now," Miquel stated. Leicester came from behind to beat Birmingham on Wednesday.
"We're hoping that will free up the team a little bit and fill them with confidence going forward."
Leicester found themselves behind early on when former Fox Ava Baker opened the scoring, but scoring four in eight minutes led to City holding a firm advantage at the break.
Miquel added: "When we took the goal, it was still early in the game so it wasn't ideal but we still had time and it was important for us to score at least one and get back into it and that goal set the team free and they played with less stress which led to more goals.
A first senior goal for Simone Sherwood.
"Sometimes there are nights like this, when others times, things don't work, and then today we scored five. Ideally we'd score more in every game but the players wanted to show a different face then we did against Man City. They enjoyed playing tonight.
"It's a hard competition, and if you're not good in every game and come top then you don't get through. Even though we didn't lose, we went to penalties twice and that means we drop points.
"But it's an important win that will give us confidence for the rest of the season."
