Ricardo Pereira speaks after his final Leicester City appearance
He made his 220th and last Foxes outing in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Blackburn
Coming after relegation to Sky Bet League One was confirmed, it was a bittersweet occasion
He had the chance to say goodbye to over 2,000 travelling fans
With relegation to Sky Bet League One already confirmed before the 1-0 final-day win at Blackburn Rovers, there was a mix of emotions for the Portuguese full-back in Lancashire.
Acknowledging the present day but also beginning to reflect on an eight-year association with the Foxes, our skipper admitted it was emotional saying farewell to the 2,030 members of the Blue Army who travelled to Ewood Park over the weekend.
He told us afterwards: “Overall, [the season] wasn’t good, but I said to the boys before the game: ‘We have this game, it’s 90 minutes, so let’s try to win and finish well’.
“It’s nice for [the fans], even with the situation, where we are. We have 2,000 people here [for an] early kick-off [which is] far from Leicester. It was nice to give this for them.
“We had some chances in the first half. It looked like the ball didn’t want to go in, but at least we had one goal and the win. That’s the most important [thing].”
Ricardo says it was a ‘strange’ day at Ewood Park, but nonetheless wanted to say thank to those who have made his eight years as a Fox so memorable.
“Even before the game, I felt different, strange,” he added. “I was anxious. When you get into the game, you just focus on the game, but a lot of emotions for sure.
“I approached it a little different than the other games and I tried to enjoy it the best I could and we won.
“I have a lot of things going through my mind at the moment. Eight years is a long time. A lot of memories. I got a little bit emotional too.
“It was really nice and I say thanks to them.
“It’s been a rollercoaster with a lot of moments, but overall it was the best times I had in my career. A lot of growth for me personally and professionally.
“I made some good friends here that I will take for life. Thank you to all fans, all the staff, all the players, everyone that shared the dressing room, the training ground, the pitch.”
