Taking a two-goal lead early on at LCFC Training Ground was key to the Foxes' success in the PGA Under-21s League Cup final four phase, with Sammy Kacmzar and Simone Sherwood making the difference.
Resilient to the end, it was a tough battle against the Black Cats for our youngsters, but one which saw individuals shine, and come out on top in Leicestershire.
The young Foxes went 2-0 up after 20 minutes.
“I’m immensely proud of the girls,” Sowe stated. “It was a tough 90 minutes against Sunderland who had a strong gameplan and were a physical team so to execute the game plan was great.
“We felt being the home team, we could start strongly in the game and the early goals helped settle the nerves.”
An injury-time goal from Crista Chetcuti-Ganado confirmed a 3-1 victory, confirming a place in the final, which the coach believes will be a big occasion for all those involved.
Sowe added: “We knew towards the end they were going to throw everything at us, and they are strong on set-pieces, and we knew the ball would end up in our box at some point.
One game stands between Leicester and silverware.
“So, to steal the ball and score at the end was great and killed any momentum they had and the game to help see us get through.
“We’ve giving ourselves something to play for and the final will be a good experience for the players and staff, which they deserve after all the work they put in.”
