Supporting BIGGA’s First Green initiative, we welcomed pupils from Sparkenhoe Primary School – a Premier League Primary Stars partner – for outdoor lessons with our world-class training centre in north Leicestershire providing a stunning backdrop.

With experts in turf management on hand from the STA, our visitors learned just how much care goes into maintaining pristine sports pitches, while also enjoying a behind-the-scenes look at the art and science that keeps elite turf in top shape.

Honey tasting, from our own on-site beehives, and fish feeding in the magnificent pond outside the King Power Centre was also on the agenda, with every station offering something new to discover. Some of our Under-18s also dropped by to join the morning activities, with Filbert Fox making a surprise appearance to delight the school kids, turning up the energy and posing for plenty of unforgettable photo moments.

The day was part of BIGGA’s innovative First Green initiative – a programme designed to turn golf courses into outdoor environmental classrooms.

Through the Premier League Primary Stars programme, which harnesses the power of football to encourage learning, promote active lifestyles, and build confidence, this event showed just how powerful outdoor education can be, especially as the country continues to savour this late spring sunshine.

We’d like to extend a big thank you to everyone who made the day possible – from the dedicated grounds staff at the Sports Turf Academy, to our incredible Leicester City in the Community coaches and, of course, the pupils from Sparkenhoe Primary School.
