Southampton are the visitors to King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon
Leicester City will be without Mads Hermansen for the Premier League fixture
Jakub Stolarczyk is set to start in goal against the Saints
Ruud van Nistelrooy also provided updates on a host of other injuries
The Danish ‘keeper suffered a groin injury which kept him out of seven successive Premier League fixtures during December and January before returning but will now sit out the remainder of 2024/25 in order to be ready for the next campaign.
That begins with Saturday’s visit of Southampton to King Power Stadium (3pm kick-off), with Polish shot-stopper Jakub Stolarczyk set to deputise in his absence against the Saints. “Mads Hermansen had an operation so Jakub will be in for the rest of the season in the remaining games,” City’s Manager told the media in his pre-match press conference. "It's something which had to be solved to get him up and running for pre-season.
“It’s better to do it now so he is ready, instead of delaying. It’s the problem that he had when he missed games and Jakub filled in very well, in December and January. It’s still that issue and it’s being taken care of so he can work on his recovery to be fit for pre-season.
“Of course, he had the big spell out where we had to prepare him without an operation to play the rest of the season, which the medical team and strength and conditioning team did a great job on and managed him through the games and training sessions.
“In this situation, when we have already been relegated, we have Jakub as a great no.2 to fit in and for his experience it is very good. He (Hermansen) had been playing through this injury.”
Elsewhere within the squad, there were several injury concerns picked up during the defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out, with the likes of Ricardo Pereira, Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Facundo Buonanotte all withdrawn at Molineux Stadium.
The game will also come too soon for Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu, both of whom remain out of contention.
“We are a lot thinner than before,” the Dutchman explained. “Ricardo Pereira came off with a muscle injury and will be out for a couple of weeks. It’s possible that he can still play. Bobby De Cordova-Reid had a muscle injury and we don’t expect him to play this season anymore.
“Facundo [Buonanotte] had concussion so he’s in the protocol for concussion and will miss Saturday’s game. We’ll see if he will make it into next week’s game.
“Of course, Stephy Mavididi, we don’t expect him to play again this season. With Abdul Fatawu, it’s clear that he’s also not involved for this season.”
