It will be the first-ever League Cup meeting between the two clubs – with audio coverage available on Foxes Hub to holders of a valid Game Pass. Ahead of this clash with the Sky Bet League 1 outfit, we look at some of the numbers behind a match-up which dates back to 1910...
Previous encounters
Ricardo Pereira
The sides last met on New Year’s Day 2024 in the Sky Bet Championship, when City produced an emphatic 4-1 victory in Leicester. Tom Cannon struck twice, with Ricardo Pereira and Stephy Mavididi also on target, while Michał Helik netted a consolation for the hosts in front of over 30,000 fans.
Our most recent cup clash with the Terriers, on the other hand, came in the 2012/13 FA Cup, when Leicester were edged out 2-1 in a fourth round replay at King Power Stadium, with Michael Keane on the scoresheet for us.
Landmark moments
Jamie Vardy
Hat-tricks have been rare in this fixture, with the only one on record coming almost a century ago – George Brown’s treble for the Terriers in October 1926 during their golden era in the Football League.
Penalties have been a more recent theme, with both sides scoring from the spot in the same match in April 2019, Jamie Vardy converting for City and Aaron Mooy for Huddersfield.
The most recent own goals also came in a single game – a 2013 Championship encounter at King Power Stadium – when Paul Konchesky turned into his own net for Leicester and Anthony Gerrard did likewise for the visitors.
Our last debut against the Terriers came in January 2018, when Adrien Silva made his first appearance, while Phil Billing was the most recent Huddersfield player to debut in the fixture back in April 2014.
Played for both & top scorers
Lee Peltier
Transfers between the clubs include Lee Peltier, who joined City in June 2011, while current First Team Coach Andy King – a Premier League, Championship and League 1 title-winner as a player at the Club – headed on loan to Huddersfield in January 2020.
Over the years, a long list of players have worn both shirts, including Frank Worthington, Ben Chilwell, Danny Drinkwater, Richard Stearman, Martyn Waghorn and Jermaine Beckford. Worthington scored twice for Huddersfield against Leicester but never found the net for City in this particular fixture.
Arthur Chandler, meanwhile, remains our all-time leading scorer against the Terriers with 10 goals, while George Brown’s nine for Huddersfield still leads their charts.
