With the U's under new management in the form of former Luton Town head coach Matt Bloomfield, it's likely to be a different challenge to the one we faced during the 2-2 draw in Oxford earlier this year.
With the help of Dave Smith, who co-authored Of Fossils & Foxes, here's a look at the history of our clashes with the Oxfordshire outfit...
Previous encounters

City and Oxford have now met 28 times in all competitions, with 17 of those fixtures coming in the second tier of English football. We have recorded 11 victories across league and cup meetings.
The sides’ most recent league meeting came in September 2025, when we drew 2-2 at Kassam Stadium. Goals from Jordan Ayew and Ricardo Pereira were countered by Oxford efforts, including an own goal, as the points were shared in front of 11,362 supporters.
Prior to that, the clubs last crossed paths in league competition during the 1993/94 old First Division season. The final fixture of that campaign, played in April 1994, ended in a 2-2 draw at Oxford, with Mark Blake and Julian Joachim on the scoresheet for us.
Among earlier meetings, a 2-1 home win in April 1993 stands out, with Steve Thompson from the spot and Steve Walsh securing the points for the Foxes.
Landmark moments

The fixture dates back to 1960, when Leicester and Oxford first met in the FA Cup, City running out 3-1 winners. Since then, there have been several memorable contests, including the remarkable 4-4 draw at Filbert Street in 1985/86, one of the highest-scoring matches between the sides.
City enjoyed success in the 1970/71 FA Cup, winning a fourth-round replay 3-1 at the Manor Ground after a 1-1 draw at Filbert Street. That tie attracted a crowd of 34,802, the largest attendance recorded for this fixture.
Oxford’s only FA Cup victory over Leicester came in January 1988, while the most recent cup meeting was the League Cup third-round replay in November 1987, when City were edged out 3-2, despite a brace from Mike Newell.
Across all meetings, there have been no hat-tricks, just seven penalties converted, and only two own goals, both scored by Leicester players.
Played for both & top scorers

A number of players have represented both Leicester City and Oxford United over the years. Former Foxes captain Matt Elliott is among the most notable, having joined City from Oxford in 1997 before later lifting the League Cup at Filbert Street.
Other familiar connections include Phil Gilchrist, David Connolly, Ian Walker, Ricky Sappleton and Tony Spearing, while Ben Nelson spent time on loan with the U’s during the 2024/25 season.
In front of goal, Leicester’s leading scorers against Oxford are Gary McAllister, Tommy Wright and Steve Thompson, all with three goals apiece. For the U’s, Gary Shelton matched that tally during the late 1980s.
