The Foxes travel to the capital to take on a Lions side who remain a formidable proposition on home soil – and have won their last three matches in the league, elevating them to third. It's a 3pm BST kick-off on Saturday.
With the help of Dave Smith, Of Fossils & Foxes co-author, we take a look at some of the landmarks which have illuminated this fixture over the years, a head-to-head which dates back to the 1933/34 campaign.
Previous Encounters
Ricardo Pereira
When the two sides last met in the league, in April of 2024, Ryan Longman’s strike sealed a 1-0 victory for the Lions at The Den, avenging Leicester’s 3-2 win at King Power Stadium earlier in the 2023/24 campaign, when Jannik Vestergaard, Patson Daka and Ricardo Pereira were on target.
That season also saw the sides meet in the FA Cup Third Round, as a much-changed Leicester team came out on top, winning 3-2 through goals from Cesare Casadei, Ricardo and Tom Cannon. We also triumphed in a Carabao Cup tie at The Den in September 2021, courtesy of efforts from Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Historically, the fixture stretches back to 1933, with Leicester recording several emphatic victories in the early years, including a 5-0 win in the 1946/47 season and another 4-0 success the following year. The overall record between the clubs, though, is relatively even (W21, D8, L18). Millwall’s own memorable victories include a 3-0 success at King Power Stadium in 2011/12 and a series of tight wins in the early 1990s.
Landmark Moments
Paddy McCarthy
In April 1947, George Dewis netted a hat-trick for the Foxes in a 5-0 win at Filbert Street – still our only treble in this fixture. There's only ever been one Millwall hat-trick against Leicester, too, which came more recently, in October 2011, when Darius Henderson netted three times at King Power Stadium.
There have also been some unusual footnotes to Leicester-Millwall games. When Leicester’s Paddy McCarthy scored an own goal in a 1-1 draw on Boxing Day 2005, he became the only player (for either team) to ever do so in meetings of the two clubs. Wes Morgan’s red card at King Power Stadium in March 2013, on the other hand, shown after just two and a half minutes, remains the fastest dismissal in our history.
The most recent debutant in this fixture for Leicester was Tawanda Maswanhise, who made his senior bow in the FA Cup victory at The Den in January 2024, while the last Millwall player to make his bow against City was Jens Berthel Askou, also sent off for a heavy challenge on Yakubu on his first appearance in 2011.
Played For Both & Top Scorers
Kasey Keller
Over the years, several players have represented both clubs, including Kasey Keller, who moved from Millwall to Leicester in 1996, and Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who later joined the Lions on loan from City in 2015. Others to have turned out for both include Keith Weller, Steve Claridge, Lloyd Dyer, Chris Wood, Harry Kane, Ben Thatcher, Dany N’Guessan, Sean St. Ledger, Dennis Wise and Martyn Waghorn, while goalkeepers Tony Warner and Rab Douglas also feature on the shared list.
George Dewis remains Leicester’s leading scorer in this fixture, his three goals all coming in that 1947 encounter, while Teddy Sheringham holds the same honour for Millwall, with five goals against the Foxes during the 1990/91 campaign – a season that saw the Lions win 2-1 in both league meetings and in the FA Cup.
