The Foxes, under the management of Gary Rowett, head to Staffordshire looking to continue a recent sequence of strong results against the Potters, but also arrest a run of five consecutive defeats in all competitions this term.
With the help of Dave Smith, who co-authored Of Fossils & Foxes, we take a closer look at some of the numbers and stats behind our past meetings with Stoke.
Previous encounters
youri-tielemans
Recent clashes have largely favoured us, including a 5-0 away win in February 2024 and a 2-1 success at King Power Stadium earlier this season. Leicester are unbeaten in the last 10 meetings in all competitions. We are also undefeated in our last six league away games against Stoke (W2 D4). Overall, the fixture has been contested across league and cup competitions for more than a century, with one notable clash coming in 2021 as we left bet365 Stadium with a 4-0 victory which came on the way to our first-ever FA Cup triumph later that campaign.
Landmark moments

One of the most notable chapters came in January 1964, when the great Stanley Matthews appeared at Filbert Street aged 48 years and 344 days, making him the oldest player ever to face Leicester. The clubs have also met in major cup ties, including the 1964 League Cup Final, which Leicester won 4-3 on aggregate – giving us our first-ever major national honour. More recently, our biggest away win in the fixture came with that emphatic five-goal triumph in 2024, as we later lifted the Championship title.
Played for both & top scorers

A long list of players have represented both clubs over the years, including Peter Shilton, Robert Huth, Gerry Taggart, Steve Guppy, Paul Gallagher and Harry Souttar. In front of goal, Arthur Rowley remains our leading scorer in this fixture with seven goals, while Stanley Matthews leads the way for Stoke with five, scored across an extraordinary span from the 1930s to the early 1960s.
