Leicester City are up against Bristol City next in the Sky Bet Championship
Tune in live to Wednesday night’s 7:45pm GMT kick-off on Foxes Hub Stephy Mavididi previewed the Ashton Gate encounter
The winger spoke in the aftermath of our 3-1 win at Derby County
We put three points on the board at the weekend, beating Derby County 3-1 at Pride Park to end a two-game winless run in the Sky Bet Championship. Now looking to gather further momentum ahead of the trip to Ashton Gate, it was a satisfying performance and result, which needs to act as a springboard in the weeks to come, the winger believes.
“It was a relief,” the 27-year-old said on Leicester’s East Midlands derby success. “We needed that as a team and a club. We put in a good performance and were happy to take away the three points.
“It’s always nice to get early goals in. Obviously in the last couple of games it’s gone against us but today we started strong, started well and that reflected throughout the game.
“We’ve got to use this victory, prepare during the week for Bristol City and hopefully put in another performance like we did today (at Derby).
“The table is close. As long as we keep our heads down and keep putting in performances like this, I think we’ll be in a good position.”
On the front foot from the first minute, Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Oliver Skipp and Jordan James all netted in Derby, with Mavididi having a hand in the third goal, referencing work to improve his decision making in big moments.
“It was a good team goal and it’s what we’ve trained for,” he told us. “It’s not just made up; we work on it constantly and we’re happy with that goal.
“It’s something I’ve been working on for a couple of years now. I see those improvements. Obviously, I’ve been helped by the staff and my team-mates as well.
“Every game I try my best for the team. As long as I keep on working hard and putting in good performances, the rest will come. If we get the three points, then everyone is happy.”
In a busy period of fixtures, the squad will need to be utilised and Silko Thomas and Jeremy Monga are two players often vying for a spot on the wing, with Mavididi keen to help the youngsters whenever he can, offering up his experience.
“We’ve got a good crop of young players coming through now,” he explained. “I try to help them as much as I can because I was once in their shoes. They bring us a different type of energy and even off the pitch in and around the changing room and training ground, which is good and what we need.
“They’re young and they know that they’ve got to keep on working hard, so it’s good. I go to them and give them pointers. They are talented boys, good wingers and I see a lot of myself in them and I just try to help guide them as much as I can.”
