Jakub Stolarczyk has called on the Foxes to stand up to the challenge after a disappointing run
City are improving, the Polish stopper insists, but need to pick up results quickly
The third instalment of a three-game home run, one in the Emirates FA Cup and two in the Premier League, sees Marco Silva’s west London outfit visit LE2 this weekend.
Although Leicester City were 6-2 winners over QPR in the FA Cup, a 2-0 defeat by Crystal Palace in midweek was a huge set-back for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men, who remain in the top flight’s bottom three – by a margin of two points – after six successive losses. Attacking the task head-on and showing a resilient mentality is the only way to repair that form and climb the table, says City’s stopper.
“It's massive,” Stolarczyk said of Saturday’s challenge. “It’s the same as the Palace game, it was a big-pressure game. It’s a big-pressure game coming up now, like every single one of them. “We’ve got to stand up to the challenge and show why we want to stay in this league. They’ve always been a good side, up there. We’ve just got to bring our A-game to Saturday and give everything we possibly can, each individual, and hopefully we can get a result.
“We’ve got to look at the next few months game-by-game. We can’t be waiting for something to happen for us. We’ve got to go to the next game thinking we’ve got to take three points and move onto the next one. We’ll take it game-by-game.”
Stolarczyk, 24, did not make any effort to minimise the frustration of Wednesday’s reverse, but was eager to point to the positive elements of recent performances.
“It was disappointing, everyone was gutted after the game,” he added. “It’s another game where we put in a solid performance, we created chances, but unfortunately we didn’t take them.
“We’ve got to go to the next games coming up now, at home and away, and be more ruthless in front of goal, be a bit tighter at the back as well. We’ve been doing better, we’re moving in the right direction, but we need a little bit of luck on our side as well.
“Everyone is buying into [van Nistelrooy’s] idea, which I think you’ve seen in the last few games. We’ve improved a lot, whether that’s on the ball, or out of possession. He’s been good with us, the whole team, and his staff as well. He’s been really good.”
