  • We were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday
  • Marc Cucurella's hit from long range was the difference in west London
  • Academy graduate believes there were positives to take from City's display
  • Ruud van Nistelrooy's men deployed a new five-at-the-back system for the game
Leicester City fell to a 1-0 reverse at Stamford Bridge following Marc Cucurella’s second-half strike from range, despite testing Enzo Maresca’s UEFA Champions League chasers.
A change in shape, to five at the back, presented the opportunity for Academy graduate Thomas to make his first top-flight start since early January – playing in the unfamiliar role of left-sided centre-back in west London at the weekend.
“It was a positive performance coming off the back of the results we’ve had recently and the performances that we’ve shown over recent games,” the 23-year-old said.

“Obviously, it’s disappointing to lose, but I think if we can take this into the rest of the season, we’ve got a real chance of getting some wins and hopefully stay in the league.
[Ruud van Nistelrooy] demands [fight] every week – week in, week out. We had a change of formation today and I think that helped us in a way.
“We put some pressure on the ball which narrowed their opportunities. We worked on it throughout the week, in training, and looked at the personnel that they had.
“It helped us and hopefully we can do that again next week. I don’t think it’s too different to playing full-back or wing-back really. You’ve got the same job, apart from you’re defending a No.10 instead of a winger.”

Back in the XI after a spell as an option on the bench, Thomas says he’s ready to continue helping the Foxes in their bid to repair their form and climb to the table.
“Throughout the season, you’ve always got to stay ready,” he added. "That’s what training week in, week out is for – to keep yourself ready. I’ll be ready whenever I’m playing.
“You’ve got real quality players in the Premier League, players that score from anywhere. It’s a disappointing one and a hard one to take, but we’ll move on and go into next week.
“We’ve got the home support behind us (vs. Manchester United this Sunday). Hopefully we can get the three points there.”
