Determined to write the wrongs from last weekend and come out on top against Spurs in the FA Cup, Rick Passmoor spoke to the media after an intense week on the training pitch.
The main talking points, including the homecoming of Rachel Williams in-between the two fixtures, follow below…
‘I know the leadership she’ll bring’
Rachel Williams rejoined the Club this week.
The big news this week, and potentially the best remedy to a loss in the capital, was the arrival of Williams from Manchester United on a permanent deal.
Coming back to where it all started, the Manager was asked about his intentions when signing the 38-year-old forward, and what he hopes she will bring to the team.
“When you look at my late arrival with a young squad, we had a lot of departures in the summer, which we probably didn’t replace with the depth that was required,” Passmoor explained.
“So, massive credit to the squad in the second half of the season to achieve what they did, and we’re trying to help them out with the new recruits.
“One of the areas we’ve recognised is the forward line. We assessed the pool we’re looking at, but we also want someone who is a character off the field.
“Rachel came into our thoughts, and of course you’ve got the history (between her and the Club), but we wanted some experience to come in and help this young squad progress.
“I worked with her a decade ago and I know what personality, leadership and winning mentality she’ll bring to the group. To get it over the line, and get her in the building is brilliant, and we’re looking forward to adding her to the team.”
‘We’ll be taking it seriously’
Taking on Spurs once more this Sunday.
Coming in at the fourth round, Passmoor is dreaming of a cup run, which could lead all the way to Wembley, but believes a tough task stands in our way.
Up against fellow WSL opposition, the Manager understands the enormity of what this competition means and hopes to gives our travelling fans the celebration they’re craving.
“The FA is intrenched in the women’s game and it’s a highlight every year on the calendar,” he added. “The final is played at Wembley, so it adds a lot of brand and ambition to the Club.
“We’ll be taking it seriously and right now we want to be adding momentum, so in terms of training and team selection, it’s in our view to go and be successful and get a result.
“It’s a good chance to build confidence heading into the second half of the season, so we’ll go there with a plan to win and kickstart our year.”
‘Achieving a positive performance’
Hoping for a better outcome this weekend.
Not many times in the calendar do you get to take on the same opponent, at the same ground, two weeks in a row.
The Manager is looking forward to such a challenge and believes last Sunday’s narrow league loss should motivate the Foxes to get back on top.
“It should motivate you more, to play them again,” the Manager continued. “ I’ve had people tell me we deserved something from the game last weekend but that wasn’t the outcome.
“The performance during that 95 minutes, we had some good spells, but what we’re trying to do with the new signings as well is build consistency during the whole game.
“We’re looking to achieve a positive performance and outcome this weekend.”
