Leicester City were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa last Saturday
Stephy Mavididi scored in-between Ross Barkley and Leon Bailey netting for the hosts at Villa Park
The Foxes remain 19th in the Premier League ahead of an Emirates FA Cup clash against QPR
Harry Winks summed up his feelings on the narrow loss
Saturday afternoon saw the Foxes lose out to the Villans in an action-packed second half at Villa Park, with Stephy Mavididi scoring in-between goals from Ross Barkley and Leon Bailey. Feeling frustrated to not get anything from their efforts, Winks admits that the squad must dust themselves off, take the positives and keep working to add points to their tally. "It's tough to take," he admitted. "It's a game that we performed better than the result showed. I think that if we come away with a point, we'd be happy.
Taking the positives from defeat.
"Villa are a good side and it's a tough place to come. Today, we showed stillness in our defending but also caused them some problems, and another day we'd come away with a point and we'd be happy with that.
"We worked so hard out there today to try and get something. To lose in the manner we did is frustrating because I don't think we deserved it.
"But that's football and we need to take the positives from it and start trying to find ways to not lose goals cheaply and getting across the line, but overall we defended well and created some chances as well so we can be proud.
"We've got no choice but to keep going. We know how quickly football can change and you get a win or positive result, and belief can come back in.
"We've been in those situations before so it's about getting that positive result to breathe confidence back into the team and go on a run from there."
Winks went on to talk about Ruud van Nistelrooy's influence since coming in, stating that defensive stability has been key to his principles, and believes Saturday's result doesn't reflect their efforts in the Midlands. Winks wants the team to stay confident ahead of their upcoming FA Cup clash.
With an Emirates FA Cup fixture against QPR around the corner, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is hoping City can use the game to regain some confidence and find a winning formula, that could translate to the Premier League.
He added: "Since the Manager has come in, that's been the base to be more solid defensively and going from there, we try to hit on the break or sustain the ball and keep it.
"In that aspect I think we've improved a lot, but if you look at the result, it doesn't really show and reflect how we defended. The Premier League is ruthless and if you give good teams chances, they'll take them.
"It's a chance to get some confidence back in everybody and get that belief back in the team if we can get a good result so we look on to the next game now."
